PITB’s 5th Roundtable convention was held on Monday, 8th January 2018 at Arfa Software Technology Park which was chaired with the aid of Dr. Umar Saif Chairman PITB in collaboration with Pakistan Software Homes Association (P@SHA).

The conference attended by 120+ CEOs of leading IT groups/companies and Vice Chancellors from the academia.

The Round Table Conference, a semi-annual occasion is conducted by means of TechHub connect, a coworking space which has spearheaded numerous tasks for the promotion of tech in Pakistan. These roundtable conferences are being organized for the past 2 years to provide a platform to the leaders from all three sectors namely Government, Industries sectors, and Academia for a discourse at the problems pertinent to the IT industry of Pakistan. This exercise is useful in defining the roadmap for the development of the IT industry at the side of that of Punjab and Pakistan.

Cyber Security

There is also another agenda object become a discussion on the issues pertinent to the cybersecurity. PITB after taking consent from the stakeholders launched a Cyber Emergency Response Team (CERT) which would act as an advisory body and provide pointers in a way that how to cope with cyber threats.

IT Special Economic Sectors

This time the focal point becomes on devising a sustainable framework for dedicated IT Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in Pakistan. It was introduced that 400 Kanal or you can say fifty acres of land will be allocated in Lahore for this purpose. Underneath this model, land and other utilities will be supplied at subsidized rates. Similarly to this, there might be a one-time exemption from custom duties and taxes on import of plant and machinery, at the side of exemption from all taxes on profits for the next 10 years. PITB shall be running with Punjab Board of Investment & Trade (PBIT) to amend the minimum land requirement in SEZ policies.

While chairing the meeting, stated, Dr. Umar Saif, “SEZ’s are the backbone of the economic system and in a short time through the tough hard work of the IT industry, Pakistan will be at the leading edge of innovation.”

Facilitation of Taxation Concerns

It was additionally agreed that PITB will build a one window facilitation cell (Helpline: 042-99030086) with the help of Punjab sales Authority (PRA), wherein IT industry can report their taxation concerns. Addressing the concerns of the telecommunication zones, Dr. Umar Saif announced the provision of ducting facility alongside paths so that it will provide the right of way for the relevant agencies.

Soon Technology of Pakistan will be much more popular and industry of IT will be on the Top like rest of the world.
